Starlux: Taiwan's Newest Airline

12 AUG | Have you heard of Starlux Airlines? Taiwan's newest airline has been a frequent topic in the headlines lately due to its world-class service and ambitious plans. Through this article, we will take a deeper look into Starlux, and why it may even be considered one of the best in the region.

Starlux is a Taiwanese Airline based in Taipei, and commenced operations 3 years ago on 23 January 2020. The airline aims to connect Asia with North America via their Taipei hub. The airline currently has a fleet of 13 Airbus A321neos, 4 Airbus A330-900neos, 3 Airbus A350-900s, with 4 A330neos and 15 A350s on order. As of now, the airline currently flies to mainly Asian destinations, with only 2 other destinations not in the continent- but more US destinations are on the way. The airline has flights from their Taipei hub to Guam, Japan, Macau, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Los Angeles (in the US) and Vietnam.

Now, lets take a look at the airline's seat products. Starlux's first class product, which is solely available on their newly-delivered Airbus A350s, is considered one of the best in the market. According to the Starlux website, the seats are enclosed suites, in a 1-2-1 configuration for ultimate privacy. The seats are spacious and can convert to a lie-flat "Zero Gravity" seat made possible by NASA space technology. The suite also comes along with a 32-inch high definition in-flight entertainment screen, personal locker, and a minibar. First Class passengers are also entitled to chauffeur services, lounge access, priority baggage and priority boarding. The A350s containing this game-changing seat primarily services to Los Angeles, Singapore and Tokyo-Narita.

Starlux's business class product is extraordinary, especially on its narrowbody aircraft. The narrowbody business class seats are comparable to regional competitor, Singapore Airlines, as it features lie-flat seats, high-definition in-flight entertainment, and an overall luxurious product. And it gets even better. On the newer Airbus A350s, the business class product features a more spacious, enclosed suite with larger screens- posing as a great competitor to the world's best business class product- the Qatar Airways Q-suite. Starlux also offers a Premium Economy cabin solely on the Airbus A350- with large screens, in-flight bedding, more legroom and greater recline.

While their premium cabin products may seem amazing, the airline's economy class is also well up to standard. The economy class product consists of the market-leading RECARO CL3710 seats, with adjustable leather headrests, wide 4K IFE screens, power sockets, fold-down drink holders, decent legroom and complimentary pillows to utilise in flight. Passengers also can connect their own bluetooth devices to the IFE screens! It is regarded as one of the best economy class seats in the region.

The airline also has a wide variety of meals and beverages, which are all decent, and high standard for airline food, according to online reviews. They also offer unlimited wifi to Business and First class, with free unlimited texting available to Economy and Premium Economy, but wifi at a premium of 5 to 10 USD.
