SpiceJet to Operate Widebody A340 Aircraft

May 31, 2023

DELHI, 31 MAY | Indian budget airline, SpiceJet, will operate 2 Airbus A340-300 jets in a wet lease agreement with Romania's Legend Airlines. The aircrafts- YR-LRE and YR-LRC have arrived in Delhi's airport earlier today and will enter operations with the airline shortly.

YR-LRE is 15 years old, and previously flew with Finnair, Air Belgium and Legend Airlines, while YR-LRC is just one year older, and has a similar operator history. SpiceJet will be operating these 2 jets for up to 6 months, most likely on hajj services.

As it is a wet-lease agreement, and SpiceJet does not have any A340-trained crew, the aircraft will be operated with Legend Airlines crew and livery. Inducting these aircraft will fill the gap for missing capacity on hajj flights left behind by the now-defunct Go First airlines.

However, SpiceJet is no stranger to the A340 as they have operated the freighter variant on several routes in the past.
