Malaysia Airlines Takes Delivery Of First A330neo

KUALA LUMPUR, 29 NOV | Malaysian flag carrier- Malaysia Airlines, has just taken delivery of their first Airbus A330-900neo today in Kuala Lumpur (KUL). The brand new aircraft departed Airbus' factory in Toulouse (TLS) yesterday at 8.50pm local time, arriving in KUL today at 4.52pm local time.

The airline announced on 15 August 2022, shortly after the Farnborough Airshow 2022, that they would take in 20 of the type. The jet will play a pivotal role in growth for the airline, unlocking new opportunities and replacing the airline's aging fleet of 24 Airbus A330s, with the oldest at 19.6 years old.

The latest addition to the Malaysia Airlines family, 9M-MNG, performed its first flight on November 6th and is all ready to enter service after just under 11 hours of test flights. It features fully lie-flat seats in Business Class, arranged in a 1-2-1 configuration to provide direct aisle access for every passenger. Moreover, Economy Class has 269 seats in a 2-4-2 layout, including 24 extra-legroom options. Both cabins offer larger in-flight screens and WiFi connectivity, combining comfort with modern amenities. The design incorporates the airline's signature songket motif, blending cultural heritage with contemporary style.

The first scheduled A330neo commercial flight by Malaysia Airlines was set to be from Kuala Lumpur to Melbourne, but has since been delayed. It is currently expected that the A330neo will operate to Melbourne and Auckland in early December, although all previous scheduling has been removed due to delays. Originally, it was set to fly to Melbourne on November 25th and Auckland on December 30th.
