Swiss Reveals Details About Their New A350s

September 11, 2023

ZURICH, 11 SEP | Switzerland-based flag carrier, Swiss, has revealed their cabin layout for their upcoming flagship Airbus A350-900s, seating 242 passengers. The airline's economy class will also be enlarged, with 38 seats, way more than their current long-haul aircraft.

The airframe the A350 is set to take over is Swiss' fleet of Airbus A340-300, seating 215 passengers- with 8 in First Class, 42 in Business, 21 in Premium Economy and 144 in Economy. The aging fleet of aircraft is set to be scrapped or transferred to partner Edelweiss Airlines upon the A350's arrival.

Contrastingly, the new A350 contains just 3 seats in First Class, 45 in Business Class, 38 in Premium Economy Class and 156 in Economy Class. The decrease in First Class seats should not be a surprise to many, as numerous world-class airlines are eliminating a First Class product on their aircraft as it is no longer viable for airlines, such as Qatar Airways, whose CEO, Akbar Al Baker stated so in an interview.

The most notable change as highlighted by the airline is the large increment in Premium Economy Class seats. In comparison to the airline's A340s, there are 17 more seats, and in comparison to their flagship B777s, there are 21 more seats. This is due to growing demand for air travel in the premium segment, particularly among leisure travellers. Swiss had implemented their Premium Economy cabins back in 2021, and has rejoiced in the success of it.

Back in December 2022, Swiss announced it would take delivery of several Airbus A350-900s in 2025 to replace their aging A340 fleet. The new A350s will feature their new "SWISS Senses" cabin concept, which will offer SWISS customers a totally new and more personalized air travel experience. The A350 is the most advanced and most fuel-efficient long-haul aircraft of its kind. It produces some 25 per cent fewer carbon dioxide emissions than its predecessor, and is less than half as loud.
