October 30, 2023

SEOUL, 30 OCT | South Korean flag carrier, Korean Air has committed to an additional order of 20 Airbus A321neo (New Engine Option) aircraft, bringing up their total order of the type to 50, as part of their fleet renewal plans.

These aircraft (powered by Pratt & Whitney PW1100G engines) can hold up to 182 passengers in a 2-class configuration, including new cabin products such as lie-flat seats in Business Class. To date, the airline has taken delivery of 8 A321neos, with the first one delivered back in December 2022, with the remaining 42 set to be delivered by 2027.

The A321neo is the longest-fuselage member of Airbus' best-selling, single-aisle A320 Family, comfortably seating 180 to 220 passengers in a typical two-class interior layout, and as many as 244 in a higher-density arrangement, bringing per-seat fuel improvements of 20%, along with additional range of up to 500nm or two tonnes of extra payload.

Korean Air is currently ongoing a major enhancement programme, with over 110 aircraft in its orderbook- comprising of A321neos, 787s, and 737 MAX 8 aircraft, replacing their aging aircraft. Additionally, the prospects of a merger with Asiana will accelerate the airline's fleet growth.
