Chaos Ensues As Glasgow & Munich Airport Closes Due to Snow

EUROPE, 2 DEC | As we enter into the final month of the year, weather delays are expected. Just today morning itself, 2 major European airports- Glasgow and Munich have halted all flight operations tentatively till the weather cleared up.

Glasgow Airport announced at 7.24am local time that the airport would be temporarily suspending operations due to "heavier than forecasted snow" today- causing numerous delays and cancellations. Airport teams are currently attempting to clear the snow, and hopes to resume operations as soon as possible.

At 9.16am local time, Lufthansa posted that Munich Airport would be closed till 12 noon due to the severe snow weather conditions and advised passengers not to travel to the airport. Later on, a new statement announced that Munich Airport would be at a standstill up till 6am local time the following morning- causing further disruptions!

Since the closure announcements, arrivals have been either cancelled or diverted, and departure delays have been piling up for the past few hours at both European Airports. Both airports have a disruption index of 5.0 on FlightRadar24, with an average of 210 minute delays in departures in Munich and 145 minutes in Glasgow.

Flights arriving at Glasgow have been diverted to either Edinburgh or Glasgow Prestwick Airport, while Munich-bound services have been sent all around the area, including Brussels, Paris-CDG, Dusseldorf and Frankfurt. However, bulk of Munich flights have been cancelled.
