SINGAPORE, 31 MAY | Singapore Airlines and Garuda Indonesia have proposed a joint venture airline which is set to operate various services between Singapore and Indonesia. As the travel industry came back strong following the COVID-19 pandemic, the two airlines are interested in collaborating to offer customers more seamless flight connectivity between the two countries and beyond, and tap into additional profits.

If regulator approves, the new subsidiary will fly routes from Singapore to Denpasar, Jakarta and Surabaya. As for the aircraft operating, it is likely to be Singapore Airlines' fleet of Boeing 737-800 aircraft, which are expected to leave the fleet soon. The 737NG aircraft used to belong to the now-merged Silk Air, and still features a regular Economy cabin with no IFE screens or wifi onboard- suiting it for a possible joint budget carrier.

As of now, both the airlines have their respective low-cost subsidiaries. Garuda has Citilink, and Singapore Airlines has Scoot.
