ADDIS ABABA, 21 MAY | Ethiopian Airlines's 28th Boeing 787 Dreamliner has departed Boeing's factory in Everett for Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. This marks the first 787 delivery to the airline in nearly 3 years- with the last delivered in October 2020.

Deliveries of the Boeing 787 Dreamliners were suspended in late-2020 following manufacturing defects and inspection issues. Since 2022, the manufacturer had been working with the FAA to restart operations gradually, with around 5 airframes delivered a month. Recently, in March, Boeing was given full clearance, and production resumed in full pace.

Today, Ethiopian took delivery of their first 787 since 2020. The aircraft in question, ET-AYD, is a 7-month-old Boeing 787-9, which has undergone nearly 11 hours of flight testing. According to planespotters.net data, the airline is currently expecting one more Boeing 787-9, ET-AXT, which recently was removed from 1 year of storage on May 18th. It is expected to be delivered shortly to the airline too.
