TOULOUSE, 25 NOV | Dubai-based carrier, Emirates, today will take delivery of the airline's very first out of 65 Airbus A350-900 jets with registration A6-BXA. This marks a pivotal moment for the airline as it is their first new aircraft type since 2008- the airline has been operating solely with Airbus A380s and Boeing 777s since then. The new type was first ordered in October 2019, later extended with an order for 15 more jets at the 2023 Dubai Airshow
The brand-new, 7 month old A350 was officially handed over to the airline today morning and will soon embark on its ferry flight from Toulouse (TLS) to Dubai (DXB) today at 4pm local time (3pm UTC). The jet has gone through a total of 7 test flights, amassing 19 hours and 48 minutes, with the first on September 25th.
Emirates' A350s have a 3 class configuration, consisting of 32 new Business Class seats, 21 seats in Premium Economy, and 259 Economy Class seats.
The inaugural A350 flight was originally scheduled to operate from Dubai to Bahrain on September 15th this year, but due to several delays it is now set to launch on the Dubai to Edinburgh route on January 15th next year. The carrier will use the new aircraft type on flights to the following destinations:
- Edinburgh (EDI) from 15 Jan
- Ahmedabad (AMD), Bahrain (BAH), Mumbai (BOM) from 1 Feb
- Colombo (CMB), Lyon (LYS) from 1 Mar
- Bologna (BLQ) from 15 Mar
With this addition, the carrier will have 247 commercial aircraft, comprising of 116 Airbus A380-800s, 10 Boeing 777-200s, 120 Boeing 777-300ERs and 1 Airbus A350-900.
