Lufthansa A350 Stuck in Luanda After Emergency Landing

December 5, 2022

LUANDA, 5 DECEMBER | On 3rd December, we reported on an emergency landing after Lufthansa flight LH575 from Cape Town to Munich diverted to Luanda. Since then, the Airbus A350 has been stranded in Luanda and is currently awaiting a new multi-million-dollar engine.

Due to issues with the aircraft's left-hand engine, the pilots landed the aircraft in Luanda after circling around to lose fuel. Upon arrival, maintenance checks were made and the flight was cancelled, with passengers staying overnight in Angola.

The five-year-old aircraft attempted to take off the next day, but aborted takeoff as the engine was still malfunctioning. Passengers were rebooked on other Lufthansa services from Angola to Frankfurt, then to their final destination.

An engineer crew is currently heading from Lufthansa's maintenance hub to Luanda to attempt repairing the aircraft.
