A Dream Come True: First Ever Non-Stop Flight From Vietnam to US Takes Off

Until today, direct flights from Vietnam to the US were not a reality. Earlier yesterday, route VN98 from Ho Chi Minh City to San Franciso took off at 8.40pm and landed today at 6.41pm local time. The route was operated by VN-A861, a 6.6-year old Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, delivered in July 2015.

At the time of writing, the aircraft is performing its return flight back to Vietnam. According to the airline, it will deploy its fleet of Boeing 787-9s and Airbus A350s for the route.

Vietnam Airlines will begin service with two weekly flights between San Francisco and Ho Chi Minh City, with plans for flights between Hanoi and Los Angeles in the near future.

President and CEO of Vietnam Airlines, Le Hong Ha announced:

Today, we are very pleased to announce the success of the inaugural commercial direct flight to the U.S., marking a new milestone for Vietnam Airlines in particular and Vietnam's aviation in general.
