Alaska Air Group Purchases Hawaiian Airlines For $1.9 Billion

SEATTLE, 4 DEC | Alaska Air Group- consisting of Alaska Airlines and regional carrier Horizon Air has announced the acquisition of Hawaiian Airlines in a deal worth USD 1.9 Billion- including around $900 million of Hawaiian Airlines' debt.

While Hawaiian Airlines will integrate into Alaska Air Group, all airlines will retain their original branding and products, but with an integrated loyalty programme and a single operating platform. This new deal will allow for increased options for US West Coast travellers, with 433 unique routes. This merger will also mean that 2 million more premium seats will be added to the Alaska Air Group.

In total, the airlines' combined network will consist of 1,340 daily departures, 365 aircraft, and 138 destinations. Alaska Airlines currently holds a mix of Boeing 737 variants (MAX and NG), together with Embraer ERJ-175 aircraft after recently retiring their A320 family aircraft. In contrast, Hawaiian Airlines holds more Airbus jets- with the A321neo and A330 (both variants). They also have the Boeing 717, and their newest addition- Boeing's 787-9 Dreamliner.

As of now, the two airlines overlap on 12 routes, which is majority of Hawaiian's mainland US routes.
