ANA Cuts Down Flights Due to Engine Issues

October 31, 2023

TOKYO, 31 OCT | All-Nippon Airways (ANA) has announced that they will be cutting down 30 daily flights between January 10th to End-March 2024 (reduction of 3.6%) as it will need to inspect Pratt & Whitney engines on 33 of its narrowbody jets. These 33 jets comprise of 11 A320neos (their whole fleet), and 22 A321neos.

These Pratt & Whitney engines, commonly found on A320 family aircraft, have been impacting numerous airlines around the world, as issues stem from contaminated metal powder entering the manufacturing process, which potentially affects internal engine parts made between 2015 and 2021. Therefore, checks need to be completed, which takes between 250 and 300 days per engine.

These cancellations of flights will result in a loss of 53 million USD in revenue by the airline, however, the airline will be able to seek compensation from the engine manufacturer, a unit of RTX corp.
