All You Need To Know: Boeing 777X Freighter

Earlier in the year, Airbus launched a freighter variant of the Airbus A350, known as the A350F. The A350F is slated to be a retrofitted version of the Airbus A350-900 and will enter service by 2025. In the Dubai Airshow this year, the A350F was a hit, with multiple airlines and leasing companies, such as ALC ordering the type.

In order to retaliate, Boeing launched their own freighter variant of their Boeing 777X, which is slated to be released in 2028, 3 years after the A350F. The 777XF would be based on the 777-8 variant of the type. However, no orders have been placed for the jet, whilst airlines, such as Qatar Airways Cargo, have expressed interest in the jet.

Up till now, Boeing always won in the air freighter market, with their 767ERF and 777F. As of now, it seems as if the future of air freight may be different, and Boeing will not be at the top.

Now you may ask, why should freight companies purchase newer jets, when the other jets are functioning properly and are relatively new? Well, in 2028, the ICAO Emissions Standard comes into effect. This means that all freighters currently in production will have to stop being produced as they do not hit the benchmark. Thus, freighters like the A350F and 777XF are very much needed for the future of aviation.
