Akasa Air Inducts First 737 MAX 8200, International Operations to Begin

August 1, 2023

BENGALURU, 1 AUGUST | Today, India's newest airline, Akasa Air made history by inducting Asia's first Boeing 737 MAX 8200. This is the first of the 57 of the type currently on order. This new aircraft brings up the total fleet size of the airline to 20, allowing it to commence international operations around the region.

The Boeing 737 MAX 8200 is a high-density version of the popular 737 MAX 8 variant, fitting up to 197 passengers- close to 200, as the name suggests. As of now, only Ryanair and Akasa Air operate the type, which is highly suited for budget carriers. The maiden Akasa Air MAX 8200 touched down at Bengaluru airport today morning at 9.31am local time- with registration VT-YAV. The new aircraft will join the airline's fleet of 19 Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft very soon.

As the ever-expanding airline recieves its 20th airframe, it can now begin international operations. With the extensive range of the MAX aircraft, the airline will be able to fly to regional destinations in Asia, Africa and the Middle East- with Singapore and Middle Eastern countries high on its list, sources claim.

Additionally, due to the great success of the (almost) one-year-old airline so far, the airline is planning for a triple digit order by the end of 2023, in addition to the 70+ airframes they currently have on order now.
